what’s love got to do with it

Today, believe to be an auspicious day in many cultures, many will be digging their graves exchanging bows. Even desperate housewife Eva Longoria and fiance Tony Parker, credited for being instrumental in San Antonio Spurs’ NBA championship crown will take the plunge. Here in Singapore 772 couples–5 couples shy to complete the magic number–are tying the knots on their necks …and probably take the plunge.

Seven is a number revered in most dominant religions. In Judaism, God rested on the seventh day and sanctified it, which is the sabbath day. It was however conveniently switched to a Sunday during Constantine’s time to “appease” sol invinctus . The same context while probably most of us is celebrating Christ’s birth on the December 25 instead of the earlier tradition of January 6. Buddha had his famous 7 steps during his birth. While in Islam and Kabbalah, God and the most exalted angels dwell in the 7th heaven. In modern times, 7th heaven means a state of happiness–a bliss.

Oh well, as they say, marriage is for better or for worst–but not for good. Best wishes and goodluck…you will probably need it…:p

save the cheerleader watch live earth, save the world

One good reason to stay at home and just chill out on your couch is watch Live Earth concert and make the “pito-pito” pledge below…

-to demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

-to take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become “carbon neutral;”

-to fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

-to work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

-to fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

-to plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

-to buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

separating the historical kernel from the legendary husk

I thought I’ll be able to get my hands on Karen Armstrong‘s latest book, The Great Transformation: The Beginning of Our Religious Tradition. Someone beat me into it, obviously, and made me settle with Peter, Paul, & Mary Magdalene by Bart Ehrman.

Okay, I made it happen and no one  is really to blame but me and for that matter, I should have known it is coming. I t just caught me by surprise and hit me hard when it did.  I was the one who requested the cable company to cut off my subscription to sports channel. On top of the additional 2% gst increase,they will be increasing my sports channel subscription by S$10!  A meager sum you may say, but for me it’s just obscene and totally revolting given the fact that the increase is for the exclusive rights for some football games that they are paying premium for.  I know it’s the world most famous game and not basketball or anything but I don’t dig it and won’t be subsiding those football junkies burning their nights watching.

Coming home late after work because of a couple of detours, I was rushing hoping to catch at least the last set of the Wimbledon match of Ana Ivanovic. She was pitted against unseeded Aravane Resai which she knocked out easily and of course expectedly.  She is now headed for the 4th round to face Nadia Petrova. Admittedly (even my wife knows for sure—I think :p),  I’m a fan of luscious tennis babes and Ana happens to be one of them.

I don’t know about you but I find it deliriously sexy seeing those gals hitting those balls with feminine grace. I even prefer it (minutely at that though :p) to seeing Sports Illustrated models strutting their stuff in skimpy outfits.

And wowen’s beach volleyball of course. Have you seen Asao Miwa in action yet?

Chocolates, specially the dark ones, contain highly stimulative substances that give you a kick and some say are good aphrodisiac. This research way back in April, however, scientifically concurred that chocolates beats even the most passionate kissing hands-down when it comes to providing intense and long-lasting body and brain buzz.

I wonder if they would actually test out how comparable to actual consummation? Nonetheless, it would be interesting if some doctor love would suggest eating chocolate to be a part of the foreplay or right before the big O to increase the intensity. Some esoteric and arcane thinking believes that orgasm is where and when you get a glimpse of of the seventh heaven. Amorous imagoes, like me, somehow subscribe to this notion.

I sort of cut and pasted the news below from a popular tabloid. All the while I thought that political parties in Pinas are the worst there is, but this is really sickening. I have some “nasty wishes” for these perverts which I would rather keep to myself.

The Hauge – A judge here has ruled that a political party with a paedophile
agenda has the right to exist.

Opponents of the Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity Party (PNVD) which was formed by three paedophiles in May, had sought a ban on the party, arguing that Dutch children had the right not to be confronted with the party’s platform.

The PNVD is seeking to lower the age of sexual consent from 16 to 12 and to legalise child pornography and sex with animals. It wants paedophilea to be freely discussed, arguing that a ban just makes children curios.

Noting that the party had not commiteed a crime, Judge HFM Hofhuis
ruled:”Freedom of expression…including the freedom to set up a political party
can be seen as the basis for a democratic society. It is the right of the voter
to judge the appeal of the political parties.”–AP

Albeit there is always the fear of the unknowns and of the future, I have no qualm about growing old. I just hope that I would be given enough playing time by Almighty Coach to fullfil my destiny–whatever that is.

Not that my joints are squeaking and seem to require WD40 like a rusted hinge (nor my spare tire begins to manifest slowing down of metabolism, nor my muscles begins to sag like a laundry on a pole), in fact I never felt healthier. I can still **** like a stallion (remember Demi describing Robert in Indecent Proposal?) . It is just that gray hairs begin to unabashedly show here and there. But who cares anyway? Que sera sera !

After much deliberation and lobbying, lumabas na rin ang pinakakaasam-asam at pinakakaabangan-abangan kong promotion. It’s long overdue btw, I should have had it months ago. I’m a step higher into the foodchain and much closer to pan. Resilience is one of my virtue and I know I can stand the heat. I just wish that ingrained dirt and soot in the system don’t really rub on me.

Whoever said it’s thru the stomach should calibrate the eyesight and aim a little lower.

They keep it within the family, ika nga.

Payo lang kapatid: kung plano mong kumain dito kapag lunchtime, agahan mo.

Mabalik tayo sa koneksyon ng puson at sikmura. Ano nga ba? Wala yata. Pero good brownie points kung masarap magluto si kumander.

It officially weekend and a long one for me. Monday is Labor day so I decided to take leave on Tues and Wed to be at home with my wife and the kids. Five days maybe to much to rejuvenate me. But what the heck!
